NRL favourites: compare payout at the same market
A short-priced favourite can still show a meaningful return difference between bookmakers.
Pick one outcome
A favourite is simply the lower-priced side in a particular market snapshot. Choose the same NRL fixture, head-to-head selection and settlement period at each bookmaker. Do not borrow a favourite label from a line market; the team can be priced differently after a handicap is applied.
Calculate equal-stake returns
At decimal 1.40, a $100 winning stake returns $140 gross and $40 profit. At 1.45 for the same head-to-head result, it returns $145 gross and $45 profit. The second offer is $5 better for that winning stake, even though both prices look short. If one bookmaker lists a different line or market, the simple payout ranking no longer applies.
Keep probability separate
A 1.45 quote implies about 68.97% before accounting for market margin. It does not establish the team's true chance or a positive expected value. Confirm the bookmaker's current quote and eligibility in your location, and count only the comparable bookmakers actually present on the board.
Worked example
Illustration: Book A quotes a hypothetical NRL favourite at 1.40 and Book B at 1.45 on the same head-to-head selection. For $100, the winning gross returns are $140 and $145 respectively. Both lose the $100 stake if the selection loses.
Illustrative numbers for explaining the calculation. They are not current bookmaker quotes.
Sources and method
The prices are hypothetical. Returns use stake × decimal odds; implied percentage uses 1/odds. This is a payout comparison, not a recommendation.
